Radionomy may have yet to act on last year’s threat of de-listing SHOUTcast DNAS version 1.x broadcasters from their YP2 directory following stark warnings. However they recently sent another rather stern upgrade notice aimed at members of their revenue generation program, encouraging them to upgrade as well.
URGENT: Upgrade DNAS version of SHOUTcast
Thank you for using the SHOUTcast technology to broadcast your station! We’ve noticed you’re streaming through an obsolete version of the SHOUTcast D.N.A.S 188.8.131.526/posix(linux x64)].
Only the new D.N.A.S 184.108.40.2064 version supports our TargetSpot monetization program.
Don’t forget to register on the SHOUTcast RMO (stats, free html5 player & mobile app, etc.) to receive your payments. Click here to learn how to upgrade to the new version and about new features. If you’re using a hosting provider, you’ll need to contact them in order to upgrade.
Enjoy your stream!
The SHOUTcast Team
Now you might remember last year’s warning.
SHOUTcast versions prior to 2.0 are over 10 years old and will not be supported and will be delisted from the Website, YellowPages and API soon. Version 2.0 or better is required to retain your SHOUTcast listing. Make sure you’re on a SHOUTcast 2.0 (or newer) server to take advantage of the latest in streaming technology.
However it’s our humble opinion these messages might carry more weight if the company followed through on it’s warnings and moderated it’s wording a little. The SHOUTcast DNAS version 1 is clearly increasingly dated, as seen when Google Chrome dropped support for it a few months ago.
The latest update (v55) being rolled out for Google Chrome unfortunately breaks the ability for Shoutcast v1.x servers to be played with HTML5.
More specifically support for HTTP/0.9 over non-standard ports has been dropped. Since Shoutcast v1.x uses HTTP/0.9 and runs on a non-standard port (i.e. not 80 or 443) it gives the error “net::ERR_INVALID_HTTP_RESPONSE” when you attempt to play a stream.
And from the looks of the latest DNAS changelog there may be good reason for an upgrade by version 2.x broadcasters but it would be helpful if Radionomy could tell us exactly why it’s so important. Regardless our guide on how to upgrade SHOUTCast 1.9.8 to version 2.x remains available
, upgrading is therefore recommended! 🙂
Update 14.04.2017: Upgrading to DNAS builds above SHOUTcast Server v220.127.116.116 is now recommended against at this time because a number of stabilty and feature issues have been reported.
