According to a post on their blog electronic music store Beatport will be adding a version of their web site specifically tailored to the Dutch market with aditional content and news. The change is scheduled to happen in stages with the streaming section being “ported” over first, followed by news and downloads. And due to the country having the highest number of registered users per-capita in the world. Streamers and sellers from the Netherlands which has a highly evolved cultural relationship with electronic music are highly regarded on the service as well according to the post.
Why did we select The Netherlands to make this effort? Consider these facts: On a per-capita basis, Dutch citizens represent the greatest number of registered Beatport users than any other country in the world, as well as second in terms of overall downloads, and fifth in streaming activity. The top three best-selling artists on Beatport are Dutch. Eight of the top-10 most-streamed artists on the platform are Dutch, including the top three.
While the Beatport Store has operated in over 220 countries, including the Netherlands, for years, this is the first time we’ve adapted Beatport to a specific country. This entails much more than just translating Beatport into Dutch (although we’ve certainly done that). We’re curating the service to feature locally relevant artists, tracks, news, and more, all led by a local team based in Amsterdam with on-the-ground knowledge of the local scene and culture. Visiting Beatport in The Netherlands on the web and mobile will look and feel much different than visiting Beatport in any other country in the world. Creating a Dutch version of Beatport allows us to more deeply engage with the local community. We can work with local labels, artists and managers to provide a more relevant platform that combines sales, streaming, news and global content. We can reach new fans and further engage existing fans. Local labels and artists can now better reach their hometown fans more directly. And labels and artists from other regions interested in reaching the Dutch music fan now have a platform to do so as well.
A free sample stream of Dutch techno music has been made available by way of a celebration of the move. Beatport is an online music store specializing in electronic music and culture which is available in more than 200 countries world wide.
